Collection: Gopalpur Tussar

Gopalpur Tussar, a textile tradition dating back to the 16th century in Gopalpur village, Jaipur district, has a unique origin story tied to Sri Chaitanya and his devotees. The fabric is made from high-quality katia yarn sourced from the Mankidia community in Balasore and the Nuapatna district. What sets Gopalpur Tussar apart is its intricate yarn preparation process, with expert female artisans delicately separating Tussar silk cocoons to create exceptionally fine quality yarn. Waste materials are used to produce ghicha tussar yarn, which has a coarser texture. The weaving process employs a fly shuttle frame loom with an auto take-up motion and dobby attachment. The use of water from the Brahmani River in the degumming process gives the Tussar silk a captivating lustre and has earned it a "Geographical Indication" status. The Gopalpur Tussar cluster is known for its diverse range of products, including sarees, stoles, dress materials, bedsheets, mats, and cushion covers, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of the artisans involved.
